Golden Globe Awards [2006] ...

63rd annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Jan. 16th; 2006 in Hollywood.
The most coveted of all awards is definitely The Academy Awards ...
However; the Golden Globe has historically been a predictor of how the Oscars will shape up. The 2006 Academy Awards will be presented on March 5th and the Oscar nominations come out on Jan 31st.

"Unlike the Oscars, which are determined by about 5,800 film-industry professionals, the Globes are parceled out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association [HFPA]; a group of 86 journalists who write for different publications ..."

If the Globe is any indicator; "Brokeback Mountain" is the movie of the season. It bagged the most important awards [Best Picture, Director, Screenplay & Original Song] categories. Surprizingly "Munich" got a cold shoulder; though I think its a very well made movie. Another movie that I really liked is "Goodnight & Goodluck".
So Best Movie category may have some competition; but the Best Actor [Philip Seymore Huffman for "Capote"] and Best Actress [Reese Witherspoon for "Walk The Line"] seem almost certain ....

Below is the list of Golden Globe [2006] winners ...
• Cecil B. DeMille [Lifetime Achievement] Award: Sir Anthony Hopkins
• Best Picture - Brokeback Mountain
• Best Director - Ang Lee (Brokeback Mountain)
• Best Screenplay - Brokeback Mountain
• Best Performance by an Actress - Felicity Huffman (Transamerica)
• Best Performance by an Actor - Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote)
• Best Performance by an Actress In A Supporting Role - Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener)
• Best Performance by an Actor In A Supporting Role - George Clooney (Syriana)

Musical / Comedy Category
• Best Motion Picture - Walk The Line
• Best Performance by an Actress - Reese Witherspoon (Walk The Line)
• Best Performance by an Actor - Joaquin Phoenix (Walk The Line)
• Best Foreign Language Film - Paradise Now
• Best Original Score - Memoirs Of A Geisha
• Best Original Song - "A Love That Will Never Grow Old" (Brokeback Mountain)

Reference: Golden Globe Awards
The “Hollywood Foreign Press Association” [HFPA] awards the Golden Globes to honor achievements in film and television during the calendar year. It began in 1944.the awards are often regarded as the third most publicized awards for movies and television, after the Academy Awards (for film) and Emmy Awards (for television). This is particularly true since 1996, when the HFPA signed a new television broadcast contract.

* Recent Cecil B. DeMille winners include Robin Williams (2005), Michael Douglas (2004), Gene Hackman (2003), Harrison Ford (2002), Al Pacino (2001), Barbra Streisand (2000), and Jack Nicholson (1999).

hey jay-san
where have you been?
I'm missing you!
Actually I saw all these awards ceremony: Golden Globe and People's Choice Awards; and I wanted to write a bit of my personal views... but then didnt feel like! So just posted the winners [for records sakes]

Guess what; by the time I could make time to see the movie "Capote"; it was gone! I really regret. I especially like true-story based movies ... and wanna see Capote.

But you gotto see Munich!
I saw it again and second time I liked it even more ...

Actually, I have to write more in all the three posts I just published. So maybe next time you visit; there willbe additions ..

What an embarrassing omission for Ang Lee. He remembered to thank his wife, but completely snubbed his longtime fishing buddy, Wei-Tung.

And I think Drew Barrymore must be regretting that she agreed to let the Project Runway contestants design her gown. Everything would have been fine had they not been forced to create a dress made entirely from material found on the Christmas clearance rack at Target.

Guess I was admiring "The Man" Clint Eastwood to notice Ang Lee. Honestly I'm not aware of his fishing-buddy! Also, I found Brokeback Mountain to be somewhat boring ... Munich I think was much better. Match Point is getting rave reviews; but it looks like a re-hash of Woody's earlier films; especially "Crime & Misdemeanors" and "Husbands & Wives".

Comeon Drew Barrymore is a darling ... whatever she wears! But vibrant colors are "in" - plenty of green n blue ... apart from traditional red, black n beige ... In fact Bright Red is back with a Big Bang!!!

saw "the man" this week.was a let down.there are a few good scenes, but i don't think eugene levy can handle comedy as a solo.also "looking for comedy in the muslim world".there are some guninely funny moments in the first half, but it kind of goes downhill after that.but a different movie,so was interesting.
"the island" is pretty good.scarlett johansson is climbing up in my personal rankings.

I LIKE Scarlett Johansson, though I've not seen "The Island". I liked her a lot in "Lost in Translation" and then again in "Match Point". She was so young in "The Horse Whisperer".

I read somewhere that Woody Allen wanted to make "Match Point" with an all British cast and Kate Winslet was originally chosen; but for whatever reasons she pulled out at the last moment and Scarlett filled-in. Now she's featuring in Woody's next movie as well "scoop"!

hey, I wanna see... "Looking for comedy in the Muslim world" . I've seen it's trailor, found it very intriguing!

Totally unrelated ...
Suddenly I remember a movie, which I thought would be out in 2005; but havnt heard anything about it.
It's Scorsese's movie with Leonardo Dicaprio - "The Departed"
Doono when would that be out!!!

Yes, I saw '..Muslim World'..
Didn't actually see it but saw that there was saw there was a movie of the name..
Wasn't too interested in it because it seemed to be like a documentary type movie which tries to disprove stereotypes or something like that..
Saw Munich...that was one great movie..very nicely done..

Ramani ->

I think "Munich" is the type of movie, after which you wanna sit down in a caffe and discuss about it ...
- Firstly, its a brilliant movie. You're right, it will join the ranks of "Schindler's List" and "The Pianist" ...
- It raises so many issues ...
what I truely admired is that Speilberg didnt take sides ...
- Then of course ... Who was Louis?
- If you remember after their first killing; they are having drinks and there's a brief inteaction on , "celebration" and "rejoicing" ... Till date I'd never wondered on the difference between the two terms ...
- Since the second killing they started using "bombs"... to have a greater impact, to make a statement ... Was it the beginning of use of bombs by terrorists???
- Did Avner go back to Isreal? What happened to him after the movie ends ...???

Now now, I'm digging too deep...

Its an excellent movie!!!

Yes. Definitely. Well made with a deep point

Yes. I actually loved the way he depicted the trauma the hit squad hat to go through. He avoided making it a general action movie.
- Then of course ... Who was Louis?
Hmm..Soon after I saw the movie I was very tempted to investigate.

I think there is a very significant movie. I think 'rejoicing' is a purer religious form versus 'celebration'. You would remember that one (the one who was most pro israel) to rejoice and the others celebrate. For them, they were happy about the killings but it was not an event that caused them deep satisfaction or joy.
- Since the second killing they started using "bombs"... to have a greater impact, to make a statement ... Was it the beginning of use of bombs by terrorists???
Might be. Someone had to start this. When one side escalates, the other eventually catches on.
- Did Avner go back to Isreal? What happened to him after the movie ends ...???
Need to see. But, actually, you can nevre really know.
